An Important Message about CVFL 2015

You know, Camp Vineyard is a lot like church planting. You find a spot, you put a team of great folks together, you pray a lot, and you go for it. A lot of times, it works. Certainly, 2014 was a fantastic first year of Camp in Florida. This year, however, we’re having to cancel Camp Vineyard Florida. It’s not something we do lightly, and it’s not something that hasn’t happened without a lot of thought, prayer, and conversation. However, just like church planting, Camp Vineyard depends on the partners who come together to make it happen. Some key leadership changes in a couple of anchor churches combined with a slow response in registrations left our host churches in an untenable spot. It hurts. I’ve been in touch with the CVFL team throughout the last several weeks, and they were doing everything they could to put this together. But without the numbers and the people, there was no way to move forward. You’ve got questions, I’m sure. The first of which is probably “Wait, I signed up for Florida, what’s going to happen to my registration?” Anyone who signed up for CVFL and paid online through our registration system will receive a full refund immediately. Before this is posted, in fact. (If you mailed a check to the Cape Vineyard, they will be in touch this week.) If you registered through your church group and paid a deposit, check with your group’s leader. We can only refund registrations that we received through our system. The second question might be “Can we still come to Camp at Southeast? Is Camp Vineyard...

Instead, during The Final Hangout, we’re going to hold the first ever Junior and Senior Ultimate Quidditch World Cup! We’ll pick the 2 Junior Camper teams and the 2 Senior Camper teams with the highest scores in Ultimate Quidditch during CTC’s and let them play for a Junior and Senior division title under the lights on Thursday night! Protips for Counselor World Training

Our own Ramon Bermudez, part of the CVFL team, had a great idea for you group leaders trying to get your volunteers trained up for Camp: Buy pizza and get together on a Saturday afternoon to do all the training at once! I have to agree, having finished the new version of the Counselor World training videos, it’s definitely better to go through all the training with a few friends in the room. The new videos were shot while we did a small group training, and they have a different feel than the previous version. The videos will go live next week, so now’s the time to make some plans. With about an hour and a half of content, it’s a comprehensive introduction to volunteering at Camp. Here’s some suggestions on how to structure your group training: Before the Training Download the latest version of the Camp Vineyard Volunteer Manual (you’ll receive a link to the latest version along with some other training info in your inbox after you register). It’s the guidebook for this training, and at 60 some-odd pages, you probably want to use your laptop or tablet to follow along. You can print out a copy or two for the note-takers, if you want. Intro // 10 min. Take 10 minutes to go around the room and be sure everybody knows everyone else. This is going to be your team that’s coming to Camp. Chances are, some of your volunteers are parents who don’t normally serve with your youth team, so get to know each other a little before we dive in. You don’t have to...

What’s that? Two Camp Vineyards?!

Update: Registration for CV Southeast and CV Florida are now open! That’s right! Camp Vineyard Florida is kicking off this July! We couldn’t be more excited about launching our first-ever second site for Camp Vineyard. We’ve been working since 2012 to make sure the site has all the important stuff that makes Camp Vineyard special. It’s more than just games, Color Teams, and crazy traditions. Those are important, but there’s a reason behind all of it. We’ve been working for almost two years to be sure that reason stays the same, whether we’re at Woodland Camp, the new site in Florida, or anywhere else we may find ourselves in the future! Camp Vineyard Southeast will be June 23-27, 2014 at Woodland Camp. Camp Vineyard Florida will be July 7-11, 2014, at the Lake Yale Baptist Conference Center. Let me introduce you to the team that’s going to make it happen: First up is Ramon Bermudez from the Miami Vineyard. He’s the youth pastor there, and has been a part of Camp Vineyard since his first visit in 2011. He’ll be handling what we call the Site Director role for Camp Vineyard Florida. Ramon’s an awesome guy who’s built an outstanding youth ministry in Miami, and we’re excited to have him on our team! Next is Shane Davis, youth pastor at the St. Pete Vineyard. Shane is a Camp Vineyard vet who’s served as a Color Team Counselor, Cabin Counselor, Clear Team member, and, last year, as the coordinator for our Neat! Groups during the week. Shane will be taking on the new Site Coordinator role, taking care of the...

One week until RESONATE!

Ok, so it’s more like 9 days, but we couldn’t wait until Monday! We’re in the home stretch, and a lot of you are starting your packing lists. So, we wanted to remind everyone where they can get the info on what to pack, as well as the release forms parents/guardians will need to sign. From our Registration FAQ: 8– I registered. What’s next? You’ll receive a confirmation email with links to the Parental Consent/Participant Release form and the What To Expect sheet. If you registered a group, please print these out and distribute them to your group. A completed Parental Consent/Participant Release form will be required of all participants! Counselors and Clear Team, you’ll be getting an email from Jon early in the week with some updates. In the meantime, be sure to watch the videos in Counselor World. That’s it, we’ll see you at Check-In on the...

4 Weeks and Counting!

Can you believe that 4 weeks from right now we’ll be midway through RESONATE? Wow! So, if this is your first year, what should you be doing to get ready for Camp Vineyard? Well, if you’re a camper, you should watch this video about your first day at Camp. Then, take a look at our What To Expect sheet – it’ll help you be sure you pack the things you need. If you’re a counselor, go visit Counselor World right now! In less time than it takes to watch a new episode of Arrested Development, you’ll get all the information you need to make your first time as a Camp Vineyard counselor a success. Hey, even if you’ve been as a counselor before, it’s never a bad idea to get a refresher! We’ll be assigning teams in a couple of weeks, so if you’re an adult that ends up on the Clear Team, expect to get an email with another video from Camp HQ. Finally, here’s the schedule for the week. Lots of games, lots of groups, lots of good teaching. It’s going to be a lot of fun, we can’t wait to see you at...
