Neat! Groups

As part of the Morning Thing stream on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, we’re doing a Neat! Group segment. Thaddeus will be doing Mad Science on Tuesday, Heather will be doing Art on Wednesday, and Thursday’s Neat! Group will be a “Big Questions”-style discussion with Luke Geraty about apologetics, why learning about faith is a lifetime journey, and more. Here’s what you need on hand if you want to participate in the Neat! Groups:

Mad Science (Tue):

  • Hydrogen Peroxide
  • Yeast
    • Prep this with 3 tablespoons warm water and mix in a mixing bowl.
  • Baking Soda
  • Vinegar
  • Spaghetti (Uncooked)
  • Sandwich-sized ziploc bag
  • Red cabbage juice
    • 5 Red cabbage leaves
    • Water
    • Blend in a standard blender & strain
    • Store in a separate container
  • Clear drinking glasses
  • Various liquids to test (Clear liquids will work best)
  • Paper towels
  • Measuring cups + spoons
  • Casserole dish or other basin for things to overflow into

Art Track (Wed):

  • Watercolor palette
  • White acrylic paint
  • Mixed-media Paper
    • Prep this by attaching it to a board or piece of cardboard with painters tape/masking tape
  • Paint Brush – big is good!
  • Toothbrush you don’t plan on using afterwards
  • Hair Dryer

How can I be a part of Camp Vineyard 2020?

Easy! Starting at 3:00 pm Eastern on June 22, we will be doing 3 live streams per day on Facebook Live and YouTube. They’re free, you don’t have to register, you can watch them with your friends. If you’re a Camper and want to be part of Big Game Live, let us know using the contact form above before June 19th.

Can my youth group do stuff too?

Absolutely! We know that some youth pastors are planning watch parties, games, and even putting kids in host homes to make Camp online as close to Camp in person as possible. We’ve left a big space in the schedule after Morning Thing for games, outreach, or other events your youth group might do. Ask your youth pastor, and, of course, be sure you’re following your local guidelines about get-togethers during COVID-19.

Download the rules and equipment lists for a few CTC’s here, including some from the vault!

I’m a Counselor – What the Heck Should I Be Doing?!

Your jobs are different this year. Job one is to support whatever local event your church is doing for Camp. See what your youth pastor needs you to do that week. Beyond that, if you’ve got kids from your church on your team and you want to get them together to do things for Spirit Points, a team cheer, or whatever, that’s awesome. As always, be sure you’re following local guidelines regarding COVID, and be sure you’ve got the parents’ OK.

We want churches to be as involved as they are able to, but it’s going to be up to the local youth pastors to decide what that looks like. So, talk to your pastor and see what their plans are for Camp. The big break between the Morning Thing live stream and the Big Game live stream is perfect for outreaches, local games, or other get-togethers as allowed. We’ll say it again: See what your local church is doing and support that. That’s your main job as a counselor this year.

While most of you were signed up as counselors for Camp in-person, some of you are listed as counselors for teams because your pastor bought you a shirt and name tag combo as a gift. No matter what, you’re welcome and encouraged to participate as much as you want to. Of course, you can send in flag designs and cheers for your team, too. And if you want to play in Big Game Live, we’d love to have you! Just send us an email.

Do the points count?

Yes! We’re awarding points for best team names, flags, and cheers as usual. The points teams earned during Big Game – Live! will count. And we’re going full fantasy sports nerd and simulating the Color Team Competitions like Ultimate Quidditch, Giant Multi-Ball Soccer, BaseKickBall, and more! (To be fair, if your youth group plays games at home, those points won’t count toward the official total, those are just for fun.)

Also, we’re tracking Spirit Points! If you or your group is doing service projects during the week of Camp, tag @campvineyard and use the hashtag #campvineyard2020 in your pictures and video. We’ll be sharing those throughout the week on the stream.

How are we doing Ministry Time?

Every night after the message, we’re going to have a short time of reflection while the worship team from that night plays quietly. In some ways, that’s like what we usually do. If you need prayer, reach out to your local youth leaders, your youth pastors, or even, dare we say it, your parents. Youth leaders, check in with your youth pastor to see if they have plans for Zoom rooms, or anything like that. We know some local churches have been using different tools and techniques during this time to do this, so we encourage you to stick with what your church is familiar with.

I really wanted a shirt or a name tag!

Sorry, the window for that closed on May 31. If you ordered a set, they shipped on June 15.
